Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that endeavors to change the patient’s thinking patterns that underline negative behavior. CBT takes a practical approach to problem-solving. With CBT the ADHD patient becomes more self-aware; better able to recognize his own emotions and understands how these emotions affect his behaviour.
Clinical psychologists are usually trained in CBT. CBT differs from other types of psychotherapy in that it is about dealing with specific problems and situations rather than gaining overall growth through talk therapy. CBT does not aim to cure ADHD but rather as a complementary treatment to help manage day-to-day ADHD symptoms
